Deputy County Mayor Leads Environmental Resources Bureau’s Visit to Mainland China
[Reporter Cao Chongwei] To understand advanced international wastewater treatment technology and promote environmental development and wastewater treatment efforts in Lienchiang County, Deputy County Mayor Chen Guanren led a delegation of 15 colleagues, including the Director of the Environmental Resources Bureau Chen Zhongyi and other relevant departmental staff, on a visit to the Jiangsu branch of Fluence Water Treatment Group. The purpose of the visit was to learn about new-generation wastewater treatment technologies.
During the visit, representatives from Fluence introduced their most advanced wastewater treatment technology, MABR (Membrane Aerated Biofilm Reactor), to the Deputy County Mayor and his colleagues. They explained that MABR technology allows for simultaneous nitrification and denitrification within the same tank through aeration diffusion membrane technology, achieving more efficient and energy-saving wastewater treatment.
Chen Zhongyi shared that due to the scattered population and rugged terrain of Lienchiang County, wastewater treatment plants are established in a small and dispersed manner. This setup not only makes management difficult but also increases operational costs. Through this visit, they learned about the features of Fluence’s MABR products including the ease of mobility due to their container design, the long lifespan of core membranes (up to 15 years), energy efficiency, simple operation and maintenance, and minimal sludge production. These features are well-suited to the local characteristics and will be considered for future wastewater pipeline construction plans.
Chen Guanren also stated that Lienchiang County places high importance on environmental protection and development, actively promoting various wastewater treatment infrastructure projects. As of April 2024, the county’s wastewater connection rate remains the third highest in the nation. The future promotion of wastewater pipeline construction in Lienchiang County will continue to strive towards goals such as “improving service quality, reducing operational costs, and increasing treatment efficiency,” in line with Taiwan’s 2050 net-zero emission policy goals. He hopes that through this visit, they can gain insights into new-generation wastewater treatment technologies and encourage colleagues to continuously expand their learning and environmental experience, fostering new perspectives and developments in the field of wastewater treatment to make Lienchiang County a more livable city.
