Commercial Treatment Technologies

Here are some highlights of the water and wastewater treatment solutions that Fluence offers to its commercial customers.

Water Treatment for Drinking or Process Water
Our systems can treat water from a variety of sources, including surface reservoirs, rivers, wells, brackish-water aquifers, and seawater, producing reliable, cost-effective drinking water for urban or remote communities, businesses, and industries. We are experts at desalination and the effective removal of a wide range of contaminants, including arsenic, nitrates, and more.

Our plants are fully automated and are controlled by our innovative Smart Operation suite, which enables real-time monitoring and response, and optimizes operating costs.

The NIROBOX™ is Fluence's best-in-class line of containerized water treatment systems. These state-of-the-art, plug-and-play water treatment plants are housed in standard 40-foot shipping containers. They're designed to supply high-quality drinking water or process water from any source. Nirobox is standardized for brackish and seawater desalination, and treatment of surface water. Nirobox has been designed to maximize production capacity with a small footprint, and low operation and maintenance requirements.

Fluence's Nirobox is the most cost-effective way for commercial clients to meet drinking water or process water needs.

Wastewater Treatment
Fluence wastewater treatment solutions are comprehensive, ranging from aeration and mixing solutions to extended aeration and our latest, state-of-the-art MABR solutions, which enable a reduction of power consumption of up to 90%. MABR is poised to become the next generation of wastewater technology around the world.

Fluence has extensive expertise and references in water reuse applications. Our tertiary treatment suite can process treated wastewater for reuse in irrigation, grey water, industrial use, and many other applications.

Our wastewater treatment solutions include:

  • Aeration
  • Sedimentation
  • Conventional activated sludge process
  • Biological nutrient removal
  • Tertiary filtration
  • Water reuse
  • Disinfection
  • Membrane bioreactors (MBR)
  • Membrane aerated biofilm reactors (MABR)
  • Packaged wastewater treatment
Decentralized Wastewater Treatment
Fluence provide two main categories of decentralized wastewater treatment technologies:

  • Membrane Aerated Biofilm Reactors (MABR): This best-in-class technology provides the most advanced Class 1A-quality wastewater treatment in the industry. Fluence's MABR technology allows for simultaneous nitrification-denitrification and uses passive aeration, which is much more energy-efficient than the compressed-air aeration used in conventional treatment, reducing power consumption up to 90%.
  • Tipton Range: These robust, proven, and cost-effective packaged wastewater treatment plants are designed for on-site treatment. The extended aeration activated sludge plants are designed to treat municipal wastewater, providing an excellent-quality, disinfected effluent. Fluence has dozens of Tipton plants operating around the world.

Featured Commercial Applications

Here are some of the ways Fluence can help commercial operations optimize their water and wastewater treatment solutions.

Hi-Tech Campuses
Get closer to zero environmental impact by investing in an on-site, high-quality water reuse system based on membrane aerated biofilm reactor (MABR) technology by Fluence. Because of its very low consumption of electricity, this plant can be powered by green sources. It produces high-quality water for suitable landscape irrigation and nature restoration, and it requires minimal maintenance for uninterrupted, long-term operation.

With MABR, you can reduce the water consumption of your office buildings or high tech campus, as well as the cost and capacity of your sewage treatment. Opting for decentralized treatment will bring you a return on investment within four or five years of operation. By reducing energy consumption and the load on municipal wastewater treatment, decentralized MABR treatment and reuse make sense economically, ecologically, and socially.

MABR is robust and requires much less maintenance than conventional treatment technologies, which reduces system operating costs by more than half.

Benefits include:

  • Saving on construction of sewage mains
  • Saving on energy and water costs
  • Compliance with water treatment regulations
  • Reducing your asset's environmental footprint
Shopping Malls
Shopping malls and commercial centers are often located outside of crowded urban spaces and may serve multiple neighboring communities. Developers are aware that connecting a mall or commercial center to a sewage main can be an expensive and costly undertaking.

Treating wastewater locally is smart and ecological, resulting in lower capital and operational costs, with a return on investment in four to five years. By using the high-quality, denitrified effluent can for landscaping and irrigation, and for central heating and cooling system makeup water, you can reduce your water bill and help the environment by reducing energy and water consumption.

Fluence wastewater treatment solutions based on membrane aerated biofilm reactor (MABR) technology consume up to 90% less energy and greatly reduce operating costs while guaranteeing high-quality effluent for reuse or discharge. The system is quiet and odorless and can be erected in an out-of-sight area to maintain the character of the surroundings.

Benefits include:

  • Saving on construction of sewage mains
  • Saving on energy and water costs
  • Compliance with water treatment regulations
  • Reducing your asset's environmental footprint
Hotels and Resorts
Hotels and resorts have a high rate of water consumption. Much of the water used for irrigation, watering gardens, or cooling towers could effectively come from a recycled source.

If a hotel resort is located near a coastline or on an island, limited space and the cost of electricity can make it prohibitive to discharge wastewater and sewage. And it's crucial to keep the coastline clean, both to preserve the natural environment and to ensure no guests are disturbed.

Fluence offers the ultimate decentralized solutions for hotel and resorts, with energy-efficient wastewater treatment solutions and our NIROBOX™ containerized solutions for water treatment and desalination.

Benefits include:

  • Provides an independent water resource for irrigation or reuse
  • Cost-effectiveness
  • Easy operation and maintenance
Golf Courses
Irrigating your golf course with potable water is both expensive and harmful to the environment. Using a decentralized membrane aerated biofilm reactor (MABR) system produces an economical source of water, perfectly suited for irrigation. If your golf resort is close enough to a domestic sewage source (a residential neighborhood, a hotel, an office park or one of the city's main sewage pipes) you can tap into this source, treating the wastewater locally and using it in purple pipes for all your irrigation needs.

Depending on the current cost per unit of irrigation water, results can be expected between 24 and 60 months.

The Fluence MABR system produces excellent, denitrified, Class 1A effluent suitable for landscaping and irrigation. Fluence wastewater treatment solutions consume up to 90% less energy than conventional solutions cost a fraction of the money to run. The system is quiet and odorless and can be easily hidden to maintain the character of its surroundings.

Benefits include:

  • Provides an independent water resource for irrigation or reuse
  • Cost-effectiveness
  • Easy operation and maintenance
