Aspiral™ Flex Wastewater Treatment Plant

With low energy consumption and minimal maintenance, Aspiral™ Flex delivers superior performance and long-lasting reliability to meet the needs of small to medium-sized communities and facilities.

Decentralized design is customized to suit treatment needs

As demand grows for sustainable wastewater solutions, the Aspiral™ Flex line from Fluence stands out with its versatile, containerized wastewater treatment units. Ideal for small- to medium-sized communities and facilities, the Aspiral™ Flex units can handle flows from 5,000 to 250,000 gallons per day (20 to 950m3 per day), serving populations of 50 to 3,000 people. The modular, decentralized design is well-suited for diverse locations such as rest stops, condos, hotels, RV parks, and many more.

Modular Design and Diverse Options

The Aspiral™ Flex units are structured for maximum customization with configurations to suit specific treatment needs. Units can stand alone or integrate seamlessly into existing wastewater treatment designs. Options within the Aspiral™ Flex line include:

  • Aspiral™ S and Aspiral M: These all-in-one biological treatment units feature a fine screen, activated sludge or membrane aerated biofilm reactor (MABR), a secondary clarifier, disinfection, and for the Aspiral™ M, optional tertiary treatment.
  • AspiralTM EQSL: The equalization/sludge holding unit features a fine screen, decanting mechanism, and coarse bubble diffusers powered by an external blowing skid.
  • AspiralTM Bio: The biological treatment unit features activated sludge or MABR with a low dissolved oxygen basin powered by an external blowing skid.
  • AspiralTM UF: The ultrafiltration unit provides a fine screen, 1-4 membrane cassettes, disinfection, auxiliary operation tanks, pumps, and blowers.
  • AspiralTM Clarifier: The clarifier unit includes secondary clarification, optional tertiary treatment, and disinfection.

As an example, an Aspiral™ Flex plant configuration might include three equalization units, three biological treatment units, and one ultrafiltration unit for an Aspiral™ MBR plant that provides efficient wastewater treatment and discharge. The Power of MABR Technology

Central to the Aspiral™ Flex line is the MABR technology. This unique biological process simultaneously removes biological oxygen demand, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus in a single pass. MABR’s passive aeration reduces energy use by up to 90%, cutting operational costs while providing an efficient treatment solution.

The Aspiral™ Flex units containing MABR (Aspiral S, M, and Bio) deliver impressive pollutant removal rates:

PollutantTypical InfluentTypical EffluentRemoval Rate
Ammonia (NH4N)45 mg/L<3 mg/L>93%
Total nitrogen55 mg/L<5 mg/L>90%
Total phosphorus10 mg/L<1 mg/L>90%
Total suspended solids350 mg/L<10 mg/L>93%
Biological oxygen demand300 mg/L<10 mg/L>96%
Chemical oxygen demand600 mg/L<70 mg/L>88%

Additional Benefits of Aspiral™ Flex

  • Efficient installation: Pre-engineered and factory-tested, the units are delivered in standard 20- or 40-foot containers for rapid deployment.
  • Low maintenance: Durable MABR membrane materials have a life expectancy of more than 20 years, lowering maintenance needs and total cost of ownership.
  • Environmental resilience: Designed for adaptability, the units withstand flow and temperature fluctuations.
  • Energy savings: Aspiral™ Flex units operate at 0.25 kWh/m³ of biological energy consumption, representing significant savings over conventional treatment methods.
