Chamamos esses pequenos peda\u00e7os de pl\u00e1stico no ambiente de micropl\u00e1sticos e, de acordo com novas pesquisas cient\u00edficas, 11 bilh\u00f5es de toneladas m\u00e9tricas de micropl\u00e1sticos provavelmente se acumular\u00e3o no meio ambiente at\u00e9 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Mas os micropl\u00e1sticos n\u00e3o ficam onde s\u00e3o descartados. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/weather\/2020\/06\/14\/national-parks-deep-sea-plastic-pollution-is-showing-up-wherever-scientists-look\/\">1.000 toneladas anuais deles est\u00e3o sendo acumuladas<\/a> em \u00e1reas protegidas no oeste, incluindo o Parque Nacional Joshua Tree, o Grand Canyon e o Parque Nacional das Montanhas Rochosas. Por exemplo, um estudo de 2019 encontrou micropl\u00e1sticos em <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fluencecorp.com\/es\/microplasticos-en-lluvia-de-colorado\/\">90% das gotas de chuva<\/a> que coletaram nas Montanhas Rochosas. Pequenos fios de roupas de n\u00e1ilon muito pequenos para serem apanhados em um coletor de fiapos de uma secadora no meio de Denver, por exemplo, podem acabar em uma nuvem sobre um parque nacional.<\/p>\n<p>Uma vez que o tratamento convencional de <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fluencecorp.com\/pt\/solucoes-tratamento-efluentes\/\">efluentes<\/a> n\u00e3o remove normalmente os micropl\u00e1sticos, eles frequentemente chegam \u00e0s \u00e1guas superficiais atrav\u00e9s dos efluentes tratados. Um novo estudo de 2020 descobriu <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/science.sciencemag.org\/content\/368\/6496\/1257\">micropl\u00e1sticos em forma de poeira<\/a> em \u00e1reas \u00e1ridas seguindo padr\u00f5es atmosf\u00e9ricos que os dispersam em grande escala por longas dist\u00e2ncias.<\/p>\n<h3>Entendendo o Ciclo do Pl\u00e1stico na Atmosfera<\/h3>\n<p>Janice Brahney, da Universidade Estadual de Utah, fez a descoberta enquanto analisava poeira no deserto ocidental. Em vez da composi\u00e7\u00e3o esperada de peda\u00e7os de quartzo, feldspato, p\u00f3len e insetos, ela encontrou um arco-\u00edris de part\u00edculas de pl\u00e1stico. Este p\u00f3 micropl\u00e1stico depositado a seco era composto de part\u00edculas de pl\u00e1stico menores do que as part\u00edculas depositadas por via \u00famida; no entanto, eles foram encontrados em concentra\u00e7\u00f5es mais altas.<\/p>\n<p>Brahney usou um modelo de informa\u00e7\u00e3o da Administra\u00e7\u00e3o Oce\u00e2nica e Atmosf\u00e9rica Nacional (NOAA) que pode pegar uma coordenada de localiza\u00e7\u00e3o e determinar onde a massa de ar do espa\u00e7o estava at\u00e9 48 horas antes, tamb\u00e9m pode prever para onde ir\u00e1 no futuro. No estudo, as taxas mais severas de deposi\u00e7\u00e3o de &#8220;chuva de pl\u00e1stica&#8221; foram observadas no Parque Nacional das Montanhas Rochosas, n\u00e3o muito longe de Fort Collins e Denver, Colorado. E com a ajuda do modelo de informa\u00e7\u00e3o, os pesquisadores conseguiram identificar as cidades como a prov\u00e1vel origem dos micropl\u00e1sticos.<\/p>\n<p>Os cientistas sabem que os micropl\u00e1sticos se acumulam no oceano e s\u00e3o consumidos por min\u00fasculos organismos h\u00e1 muito tempo, mas s\u00f3 recentemente eles perceberam quantos micropl\u00e1sticos no ar s\u00e3o transportados pela atmosfera como poeira. De acordo com Steve Allen, da Universidade de Strathclyde, na Esc\u00f3cia:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>O transporte atmosf\u00e9rico significa que nossas \u00e1reas silvestres &#8211; e, portanto, nossa rede de seguran\u00e7a de ecossistemas, insetos e animais n\u00e3o afetados pela agricultura &#8211; n\u00e3o s\u00e3o seguras. As cidades geram micropl\u00e1sticos e tempestades e os carregam por muitos quil\u00f4metros. E a pesquisa traz uma nova compreens\u00e3o de como os processos a\u00e9reos globais, como a corrente de jato, podem carreg\u00e1-los por grandes dist\u00e2ncias, quil\u00f4metros acima do solo, explicando por que eles s\u00e3o depositados em altitudes t\u00e3o elevadas.<\/p>\n<p>Podemos escapar dos muitos problemas da vida da cidade no deserto, mas novas pesquisas mostram que os <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fluencecorp.com\/pt\/estudo-estima-o-consumo-de-microplasticos\/\">micropl\u00e1sticos n\u00e3o s\u00e3o um deles<\/a>.
