Isso pode ter repercuss\u00f5es importantes, j\u00e1 que os su\u00ed\u00e7os dependem delas para gera\u00e7\u00e3o de energia.<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Quando a \u00e1gua doce armazenada \u00e9 liberada no mar e na atmosfera, ela amea\u00e7a \u00e0 agricultura, a gera\u00e7\u00e3o de energia e o abastecimento de \u00e1gua pot\u00e1vel<\/h3>\n<p>Em todo o mundo, as <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/climateandlife.columbia.edu\/2017\/05\/08\/the-glaciers-are-going-why-this-matters\/\">geleiras retrocederam<\/a>, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.com\/news\/2011\/12\/1112-melting-glaciers-mean-double-trouble-for-water-supplies\/\">horizontal e verticalmente<\/a>, a velocidades nunca antes vistas. Um estudo sobre os geleiras da Nova Zel\u00e2ndia mostrou que a retirada das geleiras monitora de perto os n\u00edveis atmosf\u00e9ricos de di\u00f3xido de carbono e, \u00e0 medida que elas continuam a derreter, sua perda afetar\u00e1 o abastecimento de \u00e1gua pot\u00e1vel e uma grande quantidade de outras atividades humanas.<\/p>\n<p>O Painel Intergovernamental de Mudan\u00e7as Clim\u00e1ticas (IPCC) estima que, at\u00e9 2100, os glaciares ao redor do mundo, sem incluir as camadas de gelo da Groenl\u00e2ndia e da Ant\u00e1rtica, ser\u00e3o reduzidos em 15% e 55%, independentemente de impedirmos que as temperaturas globais subam 2\u00b0C <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"\/?p=48874\">Se o clima esquentar muito mais do que isso<\/a>, as glaciares ao redor do mundo podem perder at\u00e9 85% do seu volume.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/nsidc.org\/cryosphere\/glaciers\/questions\/people.html\">As geleiras afetam um grande n\u00famero de pessoas<\/a> em todo o mundo: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pa\u00edses asi\u00e1ticos populosos, incluindo China e \u00cdndia, obt\u00eam grande parte da vaz\u00e3o de rio no final do ver\u00e3o, do qual dependem da \u00e1gua de degelo dos geleiras.<\/li>\n<li>Durante os per\u00edodos secos, a popula\u00e7\u00e3o de La Paz, Bol\u00edvia, depende muito da \u00e1gua de degelo glacial.<\/li>\n<li>Os agricultores do Vale do R\u00f3dano, na Su\u00ed\u00e7a, contam com a \u00e1gua degelo das geleiras para irrigar suas planta\u00e7\u00f5es h\u00e1 s\u00e9culos, canalizando-a para suas fazendas.<\/li>\n<li>A \u00e1gua de degelo glacial impulsiona usinas hidrel\u00e9tricas em todo o mundo.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Armazenamento de \u00c1gua em Geleiras<\/h3>\n<p>Contamos com geleiras como uma forma de <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"\/?p=43689\"> infraestrutura natural de armazenamento de \u00e1gua<\/a>. Elas ret\u00eam \u00e1gua no inverno e a liberam uniformemente durante os meses quentes. Se a maioria das geleiras desaparecer, a corrente circular\u00e1, o tempo m\u00e1ximo de fluxo da corrente fluir\u00e1, a temperatura da corrente, o volume do escoamento e tudo mudar\u00e1.<\/p>\n<p>Mas se a precipita\u00e7\u00e3o permanece a mesma, isso realmente faz diferen\u00e7a?<\/p>\n<p>Sim. O gelo glacial sequestra a \u00e1gua de uma maneira que impede que ela evapore facilmente. Sem geleiras, mesmo que a precipita\u00e7\u00e3o permane\u00e7a constante em \u00e1reas altas da montanha, a \u00e1gua permanecer\u00e1 na forma l\u00edquida, sujeita a r\u00e1pida evapora\u00e7\u00e3o e escoamento.<\/p>\n<p>Um projeto, concebido pelo engenheiro Sonam Wangchuk, criou <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/magazine\/2019\/05\/20\/the-art-of-building-artificial-glaciers\">geleiras artificiais<\/a> em Ladakh, nos limites do Himalaia, na Caxemira indiana. Essas \u201cestufas de gelo\u201d liberam \u00e1gua de forma lenta e constante durante o ver\u00e3o, \u00e1gua que teria precipitado sem ser usada sob c\u00f3rregos e rios para o mar.<\/p>\n<h3>Depend\u00eancia Su\u00ed\u00e7a das Geleiras<\/h3>\n<p>A Su\u00ed\u00e7a tem mais geleiras do que qualquer outro pa\u00eds nos Alpes. Elas promovem a gera\u00e7\u00e3o de energia hidrel\u00e9trica em toda a cordilheira, representando 50% da eletricidade do pa\u00eds. Mas agora os Alpes est\u00e3o se aquecendo mais r\u00e1pido que a tend\u00eancia global e <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2019\/04\/17\/climate\/switzerland-glaciers-climate-change.html\">as geleiras su\u00ed\u00e7as devem desaparecer virtualmente<\/a> at\u00e9 2090, trazendo toda essa energia com elas.<\/p>\n<p>Mas o ciclo de fus\u00e3o glacial segue um padr\u00e3o previs\u00edvel. A princ\u00edpio, a fus\u00e3o aumenta o fluxo dos rios, permitindo que as usinas hidrel\u00e9tricas produzam ainda mais eletricidade. Na Su\u00ed\u00e7a, a gera\u00e7\u00e3o de energia hidrel\u00e9trica cresceu 3-4% desde os n\u00edveis de 1980. Mas a Su\u00ed\u00e7a ter\u00e1 que pagar as consequ\u00eancias. Uma vez atingido o ponto de inflex\u00e3o, o volume glacial se torna t\u00e3o pequeno que a \u00e1gua derretida come\u00e7a a diminuir, o que deixar\u00e1 as usinas hidrel\u00e9tricas su\u00ed\u00e7as altas e secas.<\/p>\n<p>A Su\u00ed\u00e7a espera compensar o d\u00e9ficit com energia geot\u00e9rmica, solar e e\u00f3lica, pois elimina a energia nuclear, uma tarefa assustadora. Para resolver o problema, a Su\u00ed\u00e7a est\u00e1 construindo ainda mais usinas hidrel\u00e9tricas para aproveitar ao m\u00e1ximo a \u00e1gua de degelo glacial, enquanto os fluxos ainda s\u00e3o intensos.
