The multistage, fully automated plant was designed to accommodate approximately 4,000 m<sup>3<\/sup>\/h (500,000 barrels day) of treated produced water. In order to meet irrigation standards, the treated water had to have a total salinity of less than 240 mg\/L, with less than .5 mg\/L of hydrocarbons and a sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) of less than 10. The plant is designed to allow 90% of the feed water to be used for irrigation, while 10% (including RO brine) is disposed of via deep well reinjection. Brackish blowdown wastewater, which is continuously discharged on-site, must be disposed of in evaporation ponds unless it&#8217;s treated for reuse. Our fully containerized solution uses ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis to produce cooling makeup water, and adds second-pass reverse osmosis, GTM degassing, and CEDI polishing to produce ultrapure water for boiler use. Fluence addressed the customer&#8217;s requirements with membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology. A sequential batch reactor (SBR) was converted into a continuous bioreactor with an Airlift membrane clarification step. With the new technology, the treatment plant can handle\u00a0higher concentrations of sludge, with a smaller footprint than a conventional plant&#8217;s.
